Tottenham Hotspur have established a healthy lead in their Europa League semi-final first-leg clash with Bodo/Glimt.
Brennan Johnson made history when he headed in the quickest ever Europa League semi-final goal just 38 seconds into the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
James Maddison then doubled Tottenham’s lead in the 34th minute, slotting home after latching on to a wonderful Pedro Porro delivery.
Dominic Solanke then scored from the penalty spot on 61 minutes to make it 3-0 and seemingly put Spurs out of reach.
However, Ulrik Saltnes got Bodo/Glimt a late goal to give them some hope of staging a dramatic second-leg fightback.
After the game, Saltnes threw down the gauntlet ahead of Tottenham’s trip to the Aspmyra Stadium next week.
Ulrik Saltnes plans to ‘come out flying’ against ‘shaky’ Tottenham
Saltnes, speaking to the Norwegian press, was in high spirits after his late goal as he accused Tottenham of being “shaky”.
He then sent them a warning, saying Bodo/Glimt would be going all out when they lock horns again in the second leg.
“I don’t remember what happened at all, but now it’s alive as hell,” he told Viaplay, via NRK, about his goal.
“I think they’re pretty ‘shaky’ now, we’re going to charge some f—— energy and come out flying!”
The message Bodo/Glimt defender Jostein Gundersen has for Tottenham
Jostein Gundersen touched upon his side’s numerous injury worries ahead of the game as he expressed his pride at how he and his team fared at Spurs.
“We got off to the worst possible start,” he began. “But I think the performance is good, considering all the conditions before the match, we have people out.
“I have to say that I am damn proud to be a Glimt player today, it’s almost so touching that we do what we do.”
Gundersen then said Bodo/Glimt would welcome Tottenham to the Aspmyra Stadium next week and fancied his side’s chances of impressing.
“We will welcome them to Aspmyra, we know for sure that we can compete against this team here,” he said. “There are good opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Glenn Hoddle has backed Tottenham to score at Bodo/Glimt and put the tie to bed.
The return match will be played at the Aspmyra Stadium on May 8, with the final set to be played in Bilbao on May 21.
