What Jurgen Klopp said to Arne Slot in private text after Liverpool’s Premier League title win

Arne Slot has revealed what Jurgen Klopp said to him when the former Liverpool boss texted his successor after winning the Premier League title.

The Reds are of course the new champions, having confirmed the title on Sunday with a resounding 5-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield. It is Slot’s first piece of silverware at the club, having taken over from Klopp less than 12 months ago.

Not only that, but the latest crown – coming five years after Klopp led Liverpool to a first league title in 30 years – is a significant one for the club, having gone back level with Manchester United on 20 league titles.

With four games remaining in the season, Liverpool is effectively embarking on a victory lap for the next few weeks, starting with a trip to Chelsea on Sunday. Although Slot is planning on rotating his squad over the remaining games, he is adamant that his side will be going out to win.

It’s been quite the week for the Liverpool head coach, who has been bombarded with messages following Sunday’s crowning glory.

“Of course, a lot of messages,” Slot said during his pre-match press conference. “Nine out of 10 times they are the same, but it comes from a good heart, and it’s always nice to get these messages. I’ve tried to answer all of them.

“It’s been amazing, especially Sunday, maybe for all the Liverpool fans, but for many of them one of the best days of their lives, and I think it was the same for me.

“The way the whole day went, arriving at the stadium, how intense the fans already were, then during the game going 1-0 behind, so it even felt like ‘oh, they’re not going to give it to us, we have to work for it’.

“Scoring the goals, seeing how much it meant, to the players but also the fans, and for me, was really special to be part of.”

And the most famous name to drop him a message? There was only ever going to be one answer.

“I assume it’s Jurgen,” Slot responded.

“What did he have to say? What most of them said, congratulations, now you know how special a club it is, now you are a part of history as well, these kinds of things.

“He was really happy for me, for the players, for the staff, for the fans, like we all know Jurgen. I’ve got a few, but I think he was the most famous one.”
