Brentford vs. Man United: Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim will turn to youth in Premier League contest

4 Min Read

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said that the youngsters “will have to play” against Brentford on Sunday afternoon, with the Red Devils placing their full attention on the Europa League.

The Red Devils are down in 14th spot in the Premier League table, and they could finish as low as 17th depending on other results in the final weeks of the 2024-25 campaign.

Amorim’s side are going for glory in the Europa League, though, and they are in an excellent position to reach the final, having recorded a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their semi-final at San Mames.

Noussair Mazraoui has already been ruled out of the clash with Brentford due to fatigue, and a number of other first-team players are set to be rested for the contest against the Bees.

Amorim has said that the youngsters “will have to play”, so there could be multiple debuts handed out this weekend.

Amorim: ‘Man United youngsters will feature against Brentford’

“Maybe some kids will have to play against Brentford,” Amorim told ICS. “We have some problems in our squad. Some players are in the limit. We will try to manage everything and the best way is to prepare for all these things. We’ll see what we can do at the weekend.

“Chido cannot play against Athletic but, in the Premier League, yes, of course. They will have to play. We have some problems. We have some players, in this moment who can play one game, but the next one they cannot play.

“We don’t know what kind of starting XI we need for the second game [this week]. Everything is in my mind but they [the youngsters] will have to play.

“It’s just one day to prepare so I will be really simple with the idea for the game against Brentford,” he added. “We will see which kind of players cannot play that game, if it puts them into risk for the second leg against Athletic Club.

“But also I know Brentford are a really tough team with a lot of quality. They have a really good bond between every player. You can feel it. We need to be prepared for a tough game against Brentford.”

Obi, Kone, Mantato all in line to play on Sunday

Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Jaydan Kamason, Sekou Kone, Bendito Mantato and Chido Obi all travelled to Spain with the Man United squad for last week’s Europa League semi-final first leg with Athletic.

As a result, it is expected that those six at least will have some part to play this weekend.

Kamason, Kone and Mandato are yet to make their senior debuts, but Amass, Fredricson and Obi have all made big impressions after being handed opportunities in recent weeks.
