‘Rapid’: Wes Brown says he played with a £2m striker at Man Utd who was faster than Cristiano Ronaldo

4 Min Read

Wes Brown played with the best of the best during his career at Manchester United.

Indeed, Brown was at United for a long time, and he saw all of the greats come and go.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an all-time great, Wayne Rooney is a Premier League legend, while David Beckham is an absolute icon.

Wes Brown was lucky enough to call all of those players his teammates at Manchester United.

Now, speaking to The Soccer Archive, Brown has been asked to build a perfect player made up of a number of his former United teammates, and he made an interesting claim when it came to pace.

Brown played with some absolutely rapid players during his time at United, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Ryan Giggs all the way to Antonio Valencia.

Owen Hargreaves reckons he was the fastest player at United for a period too.

However, according to Brown, a long-forgotten striker was actually the fastest player he ever played with at United.

David Bellion named as Wes Brown’s fastest Manchester United teammate

Brown, interestingly named David Bellion as his fastest Manchester United teammate when building his ultimate player.

You’d be forgiven for not remembering much about David Bellion at Manchester United. After all, he barely played for the Red Devils, but, according to Brown, the French striker had tons of pace.

“Pace, I’m going to go with David Bellion, he was absolutely rapid, he didn’t score much, but he was rapid, and he’s a great lad,” Brown said.

Wes Brown’s perfect Man United player

Bellion was a rather left-field pick for this ultimate player, but Brown’s other picks were star-studded to say the least.

Brown got to play with some of the greatest players in Manchester United’s history during his time at the club, and his picks for his ultimate teammate show that.

This is a who’s who of United legends, and the fact that Bellion made it in for his pace just goes to show how quick the £2m man used to be.

In fact, Alan Pardew described Bellion as one of the quickest players in England when he signed for West Ham.

“He is the sort of player that can break a deadlock with his pace as he is without question one of the quickest players in the Premiership,” Pardew said.

Bellion didn’t quite make it at United, but he did have some very exciting raw attributes that could’ve made him a star.
