Liverpool are looking at Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres as possible alternatives to Alexander Isak this summer, TBR Football can exclusively share.
After winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s first season at Anfield, Liverpool want to sign Isak this summer, as previously revealed.
However, Richard Hughes’ side are aware that luring Isak to Merseyside will not be easy this summer.
Newcastle want to give Isak a new contract, one that would make the highest earner in the club’s history.
And as such, Liverpool are working on other potential number nine additions as a new central striker is deemed one of the club’s priorities this summer.
Liverpool interested in signing Victor Osimhen
As a result, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that Liverpool have done work on signing Osimhen from Napoli.
Manchester United are interested in Osimhen this summer and the striker has continued to impress whilst on loan at Galatasaray this season.
Sources close to Osimhen have previously confirmed to TBR that he wants to move to England this summer and now the list of clubs potentially available to the 26-year-old is increasing.
Osimhen has a release clause of around £60m this summer and Napoli are currently reluctant to sell him for anything less, even if his contract is dwindling down.
Chelsea have long-standing interest in Osimhen themselves, another club who will be scouring the striker market this summer.
But along with Man United, both Liverpool and Arsenal are both keeping close tabs on his situation.
Viktor Gyokeres is also on Liverpool’s radar
In addition to Osimhen, Liverpool are also doing their due diligence on Gyokeres at Sporting CP, a striker with an extraordinary goalscoring record.
Gyokeres has scored 52 goals in 49 games this season, a striker all of Europe is being forced to take notice of.
Arsenal want to sign Gyokeres, a move that their new sporting director Andrea Berta has pushed to prominence.
An intermediary with knowledge of the striker situation told TBR Football: “Most of the big clubs in England want a top striker, it is not a shock that the same names are being looked at and talked about, everyone knows who they are.”
It will clearly be a competitive market for a number nine this summer, but Liverpool will surely be very well-placed to secure an upgrade on Darwin Nunez after winning the Premier League.
