‘Keep an eye’: Liverpool could actually sign £50m player who is expected to join Arsenal – journalist

Arsenal were the only side to pose any threat to Liverpool in the title race this season.

In a weird 2024/25 campaign – where even a juggernaut in Manchester City are yet to secure UEFA Champions League qualification – the Gunners were the only side to inject any semblance of fear into Liverpool in terms of the Premier League title race.

The Reds – however – eventually ran away with it.

The north Londoners have responded off the pitch at least, seemingly lining up some signings before the season has ended. For example, Martin Zubimendi is expected to join Arsenal this summer in a £50m move from Real Sociedad.

Another star of La Liga is also expected to join Arsenal in Nico Williams – although Liverpool could now have something to say about that.

Liverpool could sign Nico Williams ahead of Arsenal

It was Steve Kay who claimed in February that Williams is expected at Arsenal this summer.

The Spain international has a £50m release clause, and Mikel Arteta is understood to be a huge admirer.

Now – however – Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail has added a new dimension to the saga when speaking live on TikTok, saying: “I think Liverpool will sign a striker and, let’s see, maybe a wide forward too. Keep an eye on Nico Williams.”

The Athletic Bilbao No.10 has enjoyed a special season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool and Arsenal face competition for Athletic Bilbao star

While Liverpool or Arsenal are favourites to sign the winger – in our view – there are two other European giants chasing his signature.

TBR Football understand Chelsea have held talks to sign Williams as Enzo Maresca aims to improve his attack.

The Blues still have doubts over Jadon Sancho, so the search is on for potential replacements.

Furthermore, Barcelona also want Williams – so Liverpool and Arsenal have a battle on their hands if they want to sign the Spaniard.
