Benjamin Sesko makes telling transfer admission amid Liverpool links – ‘It’s open’

4 Min Read

Benjamin Sesko has left the door open to a potential summer transfer as speculation grows about a move to Liverpool.

The Reds are one of a host of clubs being linked with the RB Leipzig striker, who has 21 goals and six assists in 43 appearances this season. That form has seen him being touted for a move away from the Bundesliga, with many of the Premier League’s big guns being linked with his services.

Liverpool will likely be in the hunt for a new No.9 this summer, especially as Darwin Nunez looks to be edging closer to the exit door after three years at Anfield. With Diogo Jota also struggling for form, it looks as though the position will be a priority for Arne Slot.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has been linked as one option, although his price tag might rule him out of a move to Anfield. Julian Alvarez has also been suggested, although having only moved to Atletico Madrid last year, the Reds may find it difficult to pry him away from the Spanish side.

Sesko may therefore prove to be a more realistic option, and judging by his latest comments, he isn’t ruling out the possibility of leaving his current club.

“Right now, I’m 100 percent focused on RB Leipzig,” Sesko told Sky Germany’s Philipp Hinze. “Then we’ll see what happens. It’s open, anything can happen.”

Sesko’s comments come amid reports that Liverpool, along with a number of its Premier League rivals, is preparing an opening offer for Sesko.

According to Caught Offside, the Reds, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are all said to be getting offers ready for the Slovenia international, who has a release clause in excess of $91 million, as per Sky Germany.

It’s suggested though that interested clubs are looking to negotiate a fee closer to $80 million, with Hinze suggesting that Liverpool wouldn’t actually need to trigger Sesko’s clause, depending on the offer.

Liverpool.com says: Sesko certainly looks a more realistic option than the likes of Isak and Alvarez, and if those two aren’t available, he might well be the best option on offer to Liverpool this summer.

Isak would still be most fans’ choice if there is a chance of landing him, which might well depend on whether Newcastle gets Champions League football next season, which is looking fairly likely at this point.

Sesko then might be the man to go for, and given the numbers he’s producing at his age, he certainly looks like the real deal.

If nothing else, it might be worth Liverpool going for him just to make sure none of its rivals can get him.
