“Old man take a look at my life, I’m a lot like you…”

According to Sport Bild’s Christian Falk (via cfbayerninsider.com), Bayern Munich has won over Hans-Joachim Wirtz, father of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

And by doing that, the Bavarians look like they are going to get their man — even if the Germany international was very impressed by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola:

Indeed, I’ve heard that Guardiola made quite the impression on Wirtz after a prior phone call. The former Barcelona boss had, of course, been making his pitch for the 22-year-old to join him at Man City.

Despite an intriguing conversation with Guardiola, we understand that Florian Wirtz’s father (and agent), Hans-Joachim Wirtz, is of the mind that a switch to Munich would be the next best step.

This has created shockwaves over at Säbener Straße. In fact, the club’s bosses are now convinced that they’ve been handed a big advantage in the race for “Plan A” signing Wirtz.

A deal has yet to be signed, sealed or delivered ahead of Bayern’s impending Bundesliga title celebrations on Saturday. However, it would seem that an important step forward has been taken in the club’s bid to strengthen Vincent Kompany’s first-XI.

An important piece of the puzzle, no doubt, as Bayern look to build a Champions League-winning outfit.

Falk and his Sport Bild colleague Tobi Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia) added additional context as well. It appears as if Uli Hoeneß was the icebreaker and set things up for Eberl to talk final details and (hopefully) get a signature:

After two meetings between Uli Hoeneß and Hans-Joachim Wirtz, Max Eberl is now actively involved in the deal. A meeting between Eberl and Florian Wirtz’s father/agent has also taken place. Eberl explained how Bayern and Vincent Kompany are planning with Wirtz.

Let’s celebrate Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga championship and talk about what it means for several key members of the squad like Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and…Thomas Müller. Let’s also chat about late drama with Leroy Sané’s contract extension, Serge Gnabry potentially taking over for Harry Kane, and Kingsley Coman possibly wanting to stay in Bavaria as well.
