Arsenal fans now want ‘world-class’ player to leave after Champions League loss to PSG for his own sake

5 Min Read

A season that promised so much for Arsenal has fizzled out to nothing after they were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

The Gunners trailed 1-0 to Paris Saint-Germain from the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, which was not an insurmountable deficit by any means.

However, Arsenal could not make the most of their rampant start at the Parc des Princes and were duly punished by goals from Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi.

Bukayo Saka pulled one back for the Gunners, who needed two more goals to force extra time, but they couldn’t get over the line.

Now, some Arsenal fans are thinking – even hoping – that one of their “world-class” talents leaves at the end of the season – for his own sake.

Arsenal fans feel Ethan Nwaneri needs to leave for his own good

Arsenal were chasing the game in the latter stages of the encounter, so Ethan Nwaneri would’ve been a good shout to come on.

However, Arteta brought on Ben White late on, and Nwaneri had to sit through the entire match on the bench, unable to do anything.

Arsenal fans feel Nwaneri has been hard done by and are worrying, expecting or even hoping that he leaves the club for his own sake.

“Nwaneri just gonna have the same career path as ESR,” one fan wrote on X.

“Benched until his spirit snaps, he leaves and rediscovers enjoyment elsewhere. What a shame.”

Another fan said: “I hope Nwaneri leaves Arsenal! He deserves better! Arteta is clueless at times.”

The comments kept coming, with one fan writing: “I have zero problems when Nwaneri leaves.”

Another fan said: “Nwaneri will leave this club if he continues to treat him this way, shows no respect to him.”

Another supporter said: “I really need Nwaneri to leave at end of season. Go find greener pastures.”

The worrying thing Tim Sherwood has noticed about Ethan Nwaneri at Arsenal

Tim Sherwood spoke about Nwaneri and his reaction to his goal against Ipswich Town on 20 April.

The pundit said Nwaneri looked really disappointed as he didn’t celebrate his goal against Ipswich.

“They have in-house competition, which is great, they all want to play on the big stages,” Sherwood said.

“Nwaneri, he’s scored there, this boy, he hasn’t scored many, he scores there and he doesn’t celebrate.

“That just shows you where they are as a group of players – that boy is disappointed, he’s devastated.

“We said that when Saka was missing it was his chance to step up, he did step up, but he can’t complain that Saka’s come in.

“He can see Saka is world-class, he has every right to be disappointed not to play, but that just shows you what they’re like in-house, they have loads of competition.”

The host replied: “I think it was because it was a deflected goal.

But Sherwood was adamant as he said: “Yeah? You’re giving him the benefit of the doubt, I’m saying he’s got the hump.”

Nwaneri doesn’t appear to be happy with his game time at Arsenal right now, and it’s hard to blame him.

And with what happened on Wednesday night, it wouldn’t be surprising if that was the final straw for the “world-class” Nwaneri.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans were not too impressed with Myles Lewis-Skelly on the day.
