Martin Zubimendi names Xabi Alonso as his footballing idol

Martin Zubimendi has just named Xabi Alonso as his footballing idol which may concern Arsenal considering Real Madrid’s interest in both Spaniards.

Madrid have set their sights on Alonso as a top target to replace the departing Carlo Ancelotti and the former Liverpool midfielder being in charge of Madrid could influence Zubimendi’s next club.

Zubimendi has also held talks with Madrid about a move to the Spanish capital and although Arsenal remain favourites to sign him, the chance to work under Alonso may be too good to turn down.

Zubimendi told Real Sociedad TV: “I have looked for Xabi Alonso highlights on YouTube; I think everyone has (watched videos of their role models).”

How Arsenal feel about Real Madrid hijacking Martin Zubimendi deal

At this stage, Arsenal are not concerned about Madrid’s hijacking their deal for Zubimendi, despite reports in Spain suggesting that Los Blancos want him.

TBR Football understands that Alonso is also a big fan of Zubimendi and he looks to be one of the players he could attempt to bring with him to the Bernabeu.

Berta has been making a strong push since his arrival in North London to make sure the deal gets done, as Mikel Arteta is keen to sign a new number six.

Thomas Partey’s display against PSG proved that a new midfielder is required, as he lost possession on 20 occasions in the French capital.
