Bayern Munich vs. Gladbach…here we go!

City waiting on Wirtz family, but it might be too late (Daily Mail via @iMiaSanMia)

According to Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, Manchester City is not quite ready to cede Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz to Bayern Munich just yet. In fact, City is waiting on the Wirtz family to weigh in on the possibilities of Wirtz potentially moving to England:

Florian Wirtz is somebody Manchester City have admired for a long time and is their #1 target for the creative area of the pitch, soon to be vacated by Kevin De Bruyne. The latest information coming through is that no decision by the player has been relayed to City. They’ve not been given an indication that he is definitely off to Bayern Munich as things stand.

City are basically waiting – and have been for a number of weeks – on a resolution to a Wirtz family discussion over his future. The father has close ties with Bayern and is heavily favouring that switch, while the mother is leaning towards another season at Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz, for his part, is more open minded and his stance on City is believed to have softened in recent months. There are going to be some key days ahead.

It still feels like Bayern Munich is the leader in the clubhouse to get Wirtz and that the biggest obstacle for it getting the Germany international is not even City, but Bayer Leverkusen itself.

The bad blood between the two clubs might make the negotiations a hostile engagement.

NUFC to go after Šeško? (ESPN)

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško is going to be one of the most sought-after targets in Europe this season and Newcastle United is expected to jump into the running:

Newcastle United are scouting RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško ahead of a potential summer move, the Daily Mail reports. The Magpies are keen to recruit a deputy to Alexander Isak in the No. 9 position, and Sesko has emerged as a strong candidate. The 21-year-old, who is under contract at RB until June 2029, has netted 13 times in 31 Bundesliga games this season. According to the Mail, Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is also admired at St James’ Park.

Pavlović details why Bayern is so special to him (Säbener51 via @iMiaSanMia)

Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović recently spoke about why the club is so special to him.

“Of course, this unconditional striving for success that emerged with this generation is still an essential and driving part of the club’s DNA today. As a player, you get that from day one. In my eyes, the biggest secret of Bayern’s success is the huge sense of solidarity, this family atmosphere at the club, together with the fans. You can just feel it, even on the pitch. We have this ‘Mia san mia’ inside us,” Pavlović remarked.

Bellingham to BVB? (ESPN)

Is Borussia Dortmund on the verge of getting another Bellingham? Maybe:

History could repeat itself as Borussia Dortmund have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, TalkSPORT reports. Bellingham’s older brother, Jude Bellingham, came close to signing for United from Birmingham City as a teenager, but instead decided to continue his development in the Bundesliga in 2020 and eventually earned a move to Real Madrid two years later. Now Jobe, 19, is being courted by the same two clubs following a season in which his four goals and three assists helped Championship side Sunderland reach the playoffs.

Jobe’s more famous brother Jude made his star turn at BVB before moving to Real Madrid.

Rummenigge recalls rejecting big offer for Franck Ribéry (Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch via @iMiaSanMia)

Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently spoke about having to turn down a a massive offer for Franck Ribéry:

Rummenigge recalls how the club rejected a big offer for Franck Ribéry just one season after he joined Bayern: “We received an offer for Franck Ribéry from England, 85 million euros in transfer fee, plus one player. Uli, Karl [Hopfner] and I discussed it for hours, all three of us were torn. Because 85 million euros would have given us no worries for the future. But it was ultimately Karl Hopfer who formulated the decisive sentence that still applies today: “We don’t want to be a selling club, just a buying club.” – That was a very important moment for the future of FC Bayern. We kept Ribéry, extended his contract and didn’t sell any of our best players after that either.”

United engaged in talks with Osimhen (ESPN)

Manchester United could be ramping up its efforts to get Victor Osimhen:

Initial talks have taken place between Manchester United and the representatives of on-loan Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, reports Foot Mercato. The 26-year-old, who is expected to leave Napoli permanently when he returns after his loan in the summer, is said to be seen as a strong alternative option to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, and the Red Devils have been told that he would be open to a switch to Old Trafford on wages of around €12m per season. An offer worth more than €75m is reported to be required to land the Nigeria international, though the report claims that Gyökeres remains first choice, while sources have told ESPN that Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is also on their shortlist.
