Fabrizio Romano has some exciting transfer news for Arsenal fans.
The Gunners’ season came to a disappointing end following their defeat to PSG in the Champions League. That came after they missed out on the Premier League title to Liverpool.
It became very clear to everyone at Arsenal that reinforcements were a necessity in the upcoming summer transfer window, and Andrea Berta is not messing around.
The new Arsenal sporting director has now agreed a deal to secure the services of one of Mikel Arteta’s long-term transfer targets.
Fabrizio Romano says ‘here we go’ for Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal
Martin Zubimendi has been a target for Arsenal for a long time.
The Spain international has been one of the most wanted midfielders in Europe. Several clubs have been after him over the years.
Zubimendi rejected Liverpool after it seemed like the Reds were about to sign him last summer. Now, it looks like Arsenal have won the race.
Romano revealed on X on Saturday morning that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and all that’s left is to formally trigger his release clause.
The journalist tweeted: “Arsenal agree deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, here we go!
“Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to sign a long-term deal… so formal steps must follow soon with Arsenal to trigger €60m clause.
“Zubi, ready to become the first signing of the new season.”
Who will Martin Zubimendi replace at Arsenal?
Arsenal have Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard as guaranteed starters in the middle of the park.
Thomas Partey is another who has been a regular this season, but the Ghana international is on the wrong side of 30 and isn’t going to get any younger.
To add to that, Jorginho has a deal agreed to join Flamengo on a free transfer this summer, and the Italian’s spot will need to be filled.
Zubimendi will come in now and we expect him to become Arsenal’s first-choice starter in the number six role, replacing Partey.
The Ghana international, if he signs a new deal, is likely to take Jorginho’s place in the side as a squad player.
