Gary Lineker has detailed his job offers from television companies as he prepares to leave Match of the Day.
The former Leicester City, Barcelona and Tottenham striker will step down as host of the iconic football show at the end of the season.
Lineker will remain with the BBC for their coverage of the FA Cup in the 2025/26 campaign, as well as the 2026 World Cup next summer.
Esteemed television presenters Kelly Cates, Gabby Logan and Mark Chapman have been confirmed as the new Match of the Day hosts.
With Lineker approaching the end of his iconic 26-year stint on the show, the 64-year-old is now set for more spacious schedule.
And speaking to The Times, he commented on an offer received from the popular reality show Big Brother
It is said that his agent dealt with the inquiry and told them that he may consider taking part should they offer him a £100million fee.
“They said it was a little over their budget,” Lineker said. “Actually I wouldn’t have done it for £100m either.”
Lineker has also been offered a complete shift from sport to cooking on the television screen.
“I’d like to tell you I’m a very good cook,” he added. “I’m pretty good. “I’ve been doing it for ten years now, and I’m obsessive.
“So if I do something and I realise I’m reasonably good at it, I’ll throw my heart and soul at it.
“I’ve actually been offered to do cookery programmes, but I don’t want to, because whilst I’m a very keen cook and I think I’m a good cook, I’m not Gordon f***ing Ramsay.
“When you look at sports like tennis, which had Sue Barker and cricket with David Gower, that actually presented, you didn’t really have that in football beyond Bob Wilson.
“But to have played at the level I played, there’s no one else like that, and I always thought to myself, ‘If I can crack the presenting side of things, I think it will give me real longevity in the business’.
“I always had it planned but I didn’t know whether I could crack it.
“That was the hard bit, because the first two, three years, I wasn’t quite bad enough to give up. I was quite driven, and I eventually got better.”
Lineker made his debut as the main Match of the Day presenter in 1999, replacing Des Lynam in the post.
He recently revealed his surprise belief that BBC officials wanted him to leave the show last year.
“Well, perhaps they want me to leave. There was the sense of that,” he said in an interview.
“It’s time. I’ve done it for a long time, it’s been brilliant,” Lineker said on reflection, with his final show set to come on May 25.
