And the emotions keep coming.
Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller are the two longest serving players of the current Bayern Munich squad. Since 2011, they have been pillars of this club and been crucial components of its success. But this duo is being split up, as Thomas Müller does not have a lot of time left at the club.
Following Müller’s last home game for Bayern, which was dedicated to honoring the Bayern legend’s phenomenal career in Munich, Manuel Neuer wrote a message on his Instagram account as a tribute to his old friend:
Today was our last home game together for FC Bayern. Since 2011, we’ve played side by side – in this stadium, for this club, with all the passion that connects us.
So many shared moments, titles, setbacks, and triumphs. But most of all: memories that will last forever. What defines you goes far beyond football. Your energy, your humor, your sense for the moment – you’ve shaped this team like very few ever have.
It’s been a privilege to stand alongside you all these years. Thank you for everything, Thomas. This was special. And we’ve still got one last chapter to write.
Surely Neuer’s most poignant message will not be made online and instead be delivered in person. Yet it is nice to get a glimpse into Neuer’s relationship with his vice captain.
