‘Big W’ … Aaron Wan-Bissaka sends message to Man Utd fans after electric Old Trafford return for West Ham

3 Min Read

Former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka provided an assist on his Old Trafford return with West Ham, handing his ex-club yet another league defeat.

Graham Potter’s men put a stop to their eight-game winless run in the league with a 2-0 win away to Manchester United, meaning West Ham have completed the double over the Red Devils this season.

As for Ruben Amorim’s side, this loss was their 17th of the season in the league, their most since the 1973/74 campaign where they lost 20 times en route to relegation.

However, with the relegation places already confirmed, his side will not face the same fate, although their performances will need to improve with their Europa League Final meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on 21st May rapidly approaching.

The Congolese right-back, who was deployed on the left for this game, posted on Instagram to celebrate the win against his former employers, with the caption: “Big W. Thanks for the warm reception today at OT,” alongside photos of him in action.

The 27-year-old was one of the standout players during the game, playing a key role in Tomas Soucek’s goal with a superb pass before setting up Jarrod Bowen for West Ham’s second.

Despite Man United dominating almost all of the stats, including taking 20 shots, Wan-Bissaka also played a vital part in earning West Ham their seventh clean sheet of the season.

This was the first time the right-back had returned to Old Trafford since Wan-Bissaka’s £15 million move in the summer, with the player excelling for the Hammers in a torrid season for the East London club, who sit 15th in the league.

This Man of the Match performance from the right-back was nothing short of spectacular, with it coming at the perfect time for the player as he proved why his former side might have made a mistake by letting him go despite Wan-Bissaka’s tough time at the club.

Although he is often praised for his defensive capabilities, his attacking qualities are where he excelled in this game, registering two key passes and providing an assist with a composed cross for Bowen.

The 27-year-old is certainly in contention to become the Hammers’ Player of the Season, with his performance at Old Trafford only reinforcing this claim.
