Report: Arsenal will have to pay £60m player well over £200k-a-week if they want to sign him this summer

Arsenal have learned that one of their top summer transfer targets will demand well in excess of £200k-per-week in wages the Gunners opt to follow through with a deal for the player.

Andrea Berta has started work already on ensuring the Gunners are well-positioned to make a quick start to the summer transfer window.

Another near miss in the title race and further Champions League heartbreak has meant that Arsenal require a big summer window to ensure that Mikel Arteta finally delivers silverware in his sixth full campaign.

Now, one of their big targets for the next window has just informed them that he would want to become one of their highest earners in order to sign at the Emirates Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres to command one of the top earner spots at Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres would command well in excess of £200,000 per week at Arsenal, which would make him one of the club’s top earners at the Emirates Stadium, according to The Mirror.

Sporting Lisbon have informed the Gunners that the 27-year-old will cost £60 million and Arteta’s side are now considering whether to proceed with a deal. At this stage, Arsenal are leading Man United in the race for Gyokeres.

But the North London club would then need to pay an additional £7 million per year in net wages to the player, making the outlay for the striker rather steep.

The Swedish international is on a three-man shortlist of strikers for Arsenal with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak also on their list.

When you consider Gyokeres has 95 goals in 100 appearances for Sporting, it’s hard to argue with his hefty wage demands.

This season alone the striker has netted 52 times in 50 matches, which includes a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.
