Liverpool fans told ‘in time’ Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit will be ‘celebrated’

4 Min Read

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s choice to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2024/25 season is one of the main talking points to have emerged from Anfield this term.

The defender’s future alongside both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk left an awful lot of fans worried about the prospect of losing three of their most important players.

And, with Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid now all but confirmed, many fans and pundits have shared their thoughts and opinions on the situation.

The exit of the defender has obviously hurt Liverpool fans, but some have a different opinion and believe that Alexander-Arnold was correct for choosing to exit Merseyside and join Real Madrid.

Russell Martin defends Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision

Russell Martin’s time as a Premier League manager didn’t exactly go to plan with Southampton relieving him of his duties back in December 2024.

And, seeing as though the Englishman hasn’t yet found himself a job, he’s found himself doing some punditry work for Match of the Day, where he offered his thoughts on the position Alexander-Arnold has found himself in.

“It saddens me. In time, it will be celebrated, his career there,” he said.

“A homegrown player. Every fan wants to see someone living their dream, playing for their club, and he’s done it, and he’s won everything they can.

“At some point, people will realise he’s got the opportunity to experience something completely different to other people, and he’s taken that, and fair play to him.

“It’s a brave move, and he’ll represent Liverpool in a different way abroad.”

Liverpool will be fine without Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool’s system has relied upon the creativity of Alexander-Arnold for the past couple of years, and while there’s no doubt that his ability to pick out a pass will be sorely missed, the Reds will be fine without him.

At the moment, they have Conor Bradley ready and waiting to prove his worth and stake his claim for the starting spot in Arne Slot’s team.

Indeed, Bradley has had a bit of trouble with injuries recently, but statistically, the two aren’t far apart from one another.

Statistic per game Conor Bradley in the 2024/25 Premier League season Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 2024/25 Premier LEague season
Successful dribbles 0.5 0.5
Ground duels won 2 3
Aerial duels won 0.6 0.1
Tackles 0.8 2.2
Clearances 1.2 1.5

With this in mind, as well as Liverpool’s recent links with Jeremie Frimpong, it seems that Slot has a plan to fill the void left by the departing Englishman.

Of course, whether Bradley or Frimpong will be able to live up to the standards set by Alexander-Arnold over the next couple of seasons remains to be seen, but on paper, everything seems to be in order.
