‘One of the best’ now announces he will leave his club after Manchester United make approach to sign him

Manchester United are yet to discover whether they will be playing in the UEFA Champions League or no European competition whatsoever next season, but transfer plans are in the works nonetheless.

Ruben Amorim takes the Red Devils to Bilbao for the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham next Wednesday, with a trophy and a UEFA Champions League spot up for grabs – if Manchester United emerge victorious, it would emphatically alter the landscape of their summer transfer window.

Player will be more inclined to move to Old Trafford, but even before a ball has been kicked in the UEFA Europa League final, a target for Manchester United has now announced his departure in Jonathan David.

Jonathan David says he will leave Lille

TBR Football understand Manchester United made contact to sign David in April after hearing the Canada international could depart the Ligue 1 side this summer, as did Liverpool and Chelsea.

Now, the Lille No.9 has announced his exit from the French outfit, after five years at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

David – who Arsenal have scouted – has been a roaring success at Lille, scoring 109 goals in 231 appearances since his arrival from Gent in 2020, while also providing 30 assists.

This season alone, the man born in New York has scored 25 goals and assisted a further 12 in 48 games across all competitions.

Manchester United target has been called “one of the best strikers in the world”

If Amorim does get his hands on the 25-year-old this summer, it has the potential to be one of the best free transfers in recent times.

Canadian football expert Tony Marinaro called David “one of the best” attackers on the planet in a recent review of the Manchester United target, writing on X (previously known as Twitter): “To all Canadians, enjoy Jonathan David.

“He is a student of the game. He does everything right. Simply put, he’s a phenom. One of the best strikers in the world is Canadian and at age 18 he was with an amateur club in Ottawa. What an inspiration for all Canadian players!”

Remarkably, David has 18 goals more than Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have combined this season, so this is a move which would make a lot of sense for Manchester United, should it materialise.
