3 Min Read

Arsenal need a new striker through the door this summer.

Indeed, the Gunners are in a situation where they need a new centre-forward, and they have a few options in mind.

Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream target, Benjamin Sesko has been linked to Arsenal, while Viktor Gyokeres is an option for the Gunners too.

Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Joe Cole has been discussing which number nine Arsenal should sign this summer, and he believes he’s identified the perfect signing for the club this summer.

Lautaro Martinez is the perfect signing for Arsenal

Cole discussed the strikers Arsenal could potentially go for this summer.

The pundit named the likes of Evanilson and Benjamin Sesko.

Cole recently claimed Evanilson would be great for Arsenal, but he believes the perfect striker for the Gunners would be Lautaro Martinez.

Martinez was linked to Arsenal a few years ago, and Cole believes the Gunners should revisit this one.

“Evanilson, Sesko, I still think the perfect striker for Arsenal would be Lautaro Martinez,” Cole said.

“How old is he now, 30?” The co-host asked.

“He must be old. But listen, it doesn’t matter about the age no more, I know.

“Look, Lewandowski’s still banging in goals. Ronaldo is 40 he’s scoring goals. Strikers can age later, they can.”

Lautaro Martinez stats this season

Cole says Martinez would be the perfect striker for Arsenal, but his stats this season don’t tell the most exciting story.

Indeed, while the Argentine has been shining in the Champions League this term, his domestic form leaves a lot to be desired.

Games 31
Goals 12
Assists 3

12 goals in 31 games is hardly going to make much of a difference if Arsenal want to push for the Premier League title.

In comparison, Kai Havertz has been scoring at a better rate this season, netting nine goals in 21 league matches.

Factor in that strikers from Serie A don’t often perform well in the Premier League, and this signing starts to look more and more like one that wouldn’t quite work out.

Arsenal need someone who is more consistent in front of goal. After all, their big problem at the moment is putting the ball in the net.
