Thomas Partey wants new Arsenal contract quickly sorted

Thomas Partey ideally wants to have signed his new contract with Arsenal before their final game of the season against Southampton, according to the Evening Standard.

Partey, who Arsenal signed for £45m, has decided he wants to remain in North London and is hopeful that an agreement over a new deal can be struck between his representatives and the club.

Reaching an agreement before the final game of the current campaign is expected to be tricky and the situation is expected to carry on into the summer.

Arsenal fans wanted Partey gone after his display against PSG as the Gunners crashed out of the Champions League in Paris.

The midfielder lost possession 20 times and the French media slammed Partey’s performance against PSG on what was a bad night for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, meaning that the Ghanaian will now face strong competition for his place in the team if he stays.

Arsenal will need Thomas Partey next season despite Zubimendi deal

Arsenal will need Partey next season, despite their agreement to sign Zubimendi in the summer as they look to go strong in all competitions.

Arteta struggled to find an alternative in his squad when he was without the 31-year-old against PSG in the first leg and he was forced to drop Declan Rice into the number six.

The Gunners will need stronger depth next term and having Zubimendi and Partey competing for that spot in the midfield will be invaluable.
