Who will the Bavarians sell?

Bayern Munich appears to really want Bayer Leverkusen and German men’s national team star Florian Wirtz, but it is not going to make it easy on sporting boss Max Eberl to swing the move.

From reporting in Sport Bild, as captured on Tuesday by @iMiaSanMia:

The supervisory board expects Max Eberl to finance the €100m offer they’re planning to submit for Florian Wirtz through player sales [@altobelli13, @cfbayern]

BFW Analysis

On the one hand, this is how Bayern has always operated: with fiscal discipline and an eye to keeping the books balanced. Player sales fund player buys, at least in part, and a draining fixed deposit account is more reason for caution.

But…how is Bayern going to land Wirtz this way? Manchester City is putting on the full court press it looks like, and Leverkusen want upwards of €150M. Bayern have a number of players it could sell but that will take time and not many of them are looking like hot commodities on the transfer market.

We shall see what the summer brings.
