The German midfielder looks to be the top candidate to move in the current Bayern midfield.

The Rückrunde this season has been the story of Leon Goretzka’s Bayern Munich remontada…or maybe not in the eyes of the bosses?

The veteran started the season looking out of head coach Vincent Kompany’s plans entirely, but fought his way back after Aleksandar Pavlović’s absence. Along the way he made a triumphant return to Julian Nagelsmann’s side for the German men’s national team…but all that could still mean he has to find a new team in the summer.

From a report in Sport BIld, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Leon Goretzka has been told once again by Max Eberl and co. that the club would still like to sell him this summer and won’t offer him a new deal beyond 2026 [@altobelli13, @cfbayern]

That would be quite a reversal from just a couple months ago, when Bild reported that even a contract extension for Goretzka was not out of the question.

Now it seems to be, but it makes sense from a few standpoints. First, Tom Bischof’s arrival crowds the midfield, which already boasts Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović as the top options, and also has João Palhinha, who does not appear to be open to a move after just one year in Munich. Second, Goretzka likely understands he needs to be playing regularly to keep his place in the Germany squad ahead of next summer’s Men’s World Cup…and Bayern may not be the best place to do that.

Where might the talented midfielder end up?
