Liverpool close to signing Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool are now advancing in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal to sign right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to David Ornstein.

The Reds are now confident that they can get a deal done for the 24-year-old with discussions progressing well over a deal. Slot is a big fan of Frimpong and will be delighted to welcome his fellow countryman to the club.

The Premier League champions are expected to pay around £30 million to secure his signature, which is his current release clause with the German club.

Meanwhile, personal terms should be a formality as Frimpong is believed to be keen on a move to Anfield this summer to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid when his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of June.

Is Jeremie Frimpong a good fit for Arne Slot’s Liverpool?

Slot is planning to use Frimpong as a wing-back and use him in an attacking role on the right flank in his Liverpool team.

Trent’s attacking prowess from right-back will, of course, be missed, but Frimpong over the last two seasons has also shown to be offensively very capable.

Since making the switch from Celtic to Leverkusen, Frimpong has become one of the best right-backs in Europe and the stats back that up.

The 24-year-old has managed 74 goal contributions in 190 appearances for the German club and helped them to win their first German title last season.
