Florian Wirtz’s agent had already told Liverpool and other clubs when exactly his client will be available for a transfer.
Speculation is growing over the Bayer Leverkusen star’s future ahead of what could be a mass exodus from the Bundesliga side. Reports from Germany on Wednesday claimed that Wirtz and his parents met with officials from Liverpool and Manchester City after flying over to England.
However, Liverpool.com understands that Wirtz did not hold any such meeting. Liverpool does hold a long-standing interest in the German international, although it does look unlikely he will be making a move to Anfield this summer.
There is an expectation that Wirtz will remain in Germany this summer, with Bayern Munich also being heavily linked with his signature. Reports that Leverkusen has set an asking price of €150 million ($183M) are likely to put off any would-be buyers though.
Indeed, Wirtz’s agent – who also happens to be his father – has already hinted that the 22-year-old won’t be on the move this summer.
“Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027,” Hans Wirtz told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger in March 2024.
“There is no answer to what happens when. We should wait for the next two years and then we will see where the path leads.”
Nevertheless, there is growing speculation that Wirtz will be on the move this summer, with Leverkusen looking as though it will be undergoing a dramatic change this summer.
Head coach Xabi Alonso has already confirmed he will be leaving the club, and is expected to take over from Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
A number of players are also being linked with exits, not least Jeremie Frimpong, who is being heavily touted to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Reports this week have suggested that Frimpong is getting closer and closer to securing a move to Anfield, with one claim from Germany even going as far as to suggest that he is “on the verge” of securing that switch.
Leverkusen chiefs though have insisted that a deal is not as close as has been made out, despite suggestions that the right-back has already told the club he wants to leave.
Although it may be unlikely that Wirtz joins Frimpong at Liverpool this summer, Alonso has perhaps given his former club some hope that a move to Bayern Munich won’t be on the cards.
“Florian Wirtz didn’t tell me that he only wants to go to Bayern… this is not my information,” Alonso told reporters as he confirmed his own exit on Friday.
