Arsenal have bid ₤72 million to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting.
He is reported to be the top summer target for the Gunners as they look to address their long-standing issues in the centre-forward area. Manchester United are also interested in him – he played under Rúben Amórim when he was manager at the Portuguese club, but the player is thought to prefer a move to North London.
The former Coventry City player has scored 95 goals in 100 games since joining Sporting, and amongst his admirers is Andrea Berta, the new Sporting Director of Arsenal.
The Gunners are looking to get their main transfer business done early this summer, and are also closing in on deals for Martin Zubímendi from Real Sociedad and Jon Garcia from Espanyol.
