WIll Bayern Munich add bodies to the backline this summer?

It is certain to be an active summer for Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl. The executive addressed the matter at the Friday press conference ahead of the Hoffenheim match.

Specifically, Eberl was asked about team’s backline situation.

“We had so many injuries in defense this season. Alphonso Davies, Josip Stanišić, Hiroki Itō, Upa (Dayot Upamecano), and (Kim) Min-jae were all injured. I understand the discussion, but it’s impossible to assess the whole thing because our defense never really played together. Hiroki and Phonzy won’t be at the Club World Cup either. We’ll definitely not sign players just for the Club World Cup, but rather for the perspective,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “There’s a lot of speculation in Munich, and everyone has their own opinion. Of course, that doesn’t make things easy. With the Club World Cup, this summer is obviously special. I try to ignore it as much as possible. We have to ignore the speculation so we can conduct our business calmly. That’s what we did with the contract extensions and we want to do the same with transfers.”

When asked if Eric Dier will be with the team at the Club World Cup, Eberl did not want to commit to anything just yet.

“We’ll figure things out calmly. Obviously we want him at the Club World Cup, but we’ll talk to Eric and then see if we can find a solution,” said Eberl.
