Chelsea are set to stick with Enzo Maresca as manager, even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
With two matches still to be played they currently sit fifth in the table – good enough for Champions League place next season – but they are only ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference. Their two remaining fixtures are home to Manchester United and away to Nottingham Forest.
It is recognised that the club could do with a spell of managerial stability, and that allowances also need to be made for the level of injuries this season. And they could still end the season with silverware. They will begin favourites against Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final which will be played in Wroclaw, Poland on May 28th.
That will disappoint the section of the fan base who are unhappy with the style of football played under the Italian, but it will help them in the transfer market, as potential targets will know who they will be playing under next season.
