Brighton lineup vs. Liverpool: Predicted XI for Premier League clash as Fabian Hurzeler receives triple boost

2 Min Read

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler has been blessed with a triple selection boost for Monday’s Premier League encounter against Liverpool at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls will have integral attacker Joao Pedro back in the fold following his suspension, while Joel Veltman and Lewis Dunk have also battled back from injuries to bolster the hosts’ defensive ranks.

Dunk can expect to displace Adam Webster in front of Bart Verbruggen, but Veltman might be facing an uphill battle to displace makeshift right-back Mats Wieffer, who reunites with former boss Arne Slot this weekend.

Wieffer won the penalty for Danny Welbeck to convert in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as making a terrific nine tackles, so there is no reason for him to be demoted.

Jan Paul van Hecke and Pervis Estupinan are backline mainstays, though, while Yasin Ayari and Carlos Baleba – the latter of whom has often been linked with Liverpool – will continue in the engine room.

Pedro’s return could spell danger for Matt O’Riley‘s place in the starting lineup, as the Brazilian seeks to return to his rightful role behind Welbeck, fresh from hitting the 10-goal mark in a Premier League season for the first time.

Hurzeler is facing the best kind of dilemma out wide, where Yankuba Minteh‘s position should be safe, but Kaoru Mitoma has our vote to displace Tariq Lamptey and edge out Brajan Gruda, in spite of the latter’s goal at Molineux.

Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Wieffer, Dunk, Van Hecke, Estupinan; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
