The contract drama at Bayern Munich seems to never end. Though the long running sagas over Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies’ contracts have been resolve and decisions have been made on Thomas Müller and Eric Dier’s futures (to not be) at the club, there is yet more. One of the main contracts board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund need to worry about at the moment is the one of Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman still has a contract until 2026, but negotiations have dragged over recent months. Reporters used the last Bayern press conference of the Bundesliga season ahead of the match against TSG Hoffenheim to try and tease some answers out of Eberl on how contract talks are going with Upamecano, but Eberl was careful with his words:

“We’re talking with him, he simply said, via @iMiaSanMia. “Talks have been good.”

Given the recent fear mongering report on the possibility of letting Upamecano leave for free and the likelihood that Leroy Sané leaves for free as well, it would be nice for Bayern fans to get some good contract news again.

Head coach Vincent Kompany also addressed the possibility of Upamecano lining up for Bayern at the FIFA Club World Cup after a months long injury:

“We hope he makes it, Kompany honestly admitted, again via @iMiaSanMia. “If his recovery continues as it is, he should be there. He’ll hopefully be fit and be able to help us.”
