Barcelona transfer news: Raphinha contract update issued amid transfer speculation surrounding 34-goal superstar

3 Min Read

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that renewing Raphinha‘s contract is a priority for the Catalan giants.

The Brazil international has been in exceptional form for Barcelona during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 34 goals and registering 25 assists in 55 appearances in all competitions.

The 28-year-old has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2027, but there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with clubs from the Saudi Pro League believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

There is also thought to be Premier League interest in Raphinha, who previously starred for Leeds United, scoring 17 goals and registering 12 assists in 67 appearances for the English club.

However, Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona have no desire to discuss a potential exit for the Brazilian, with the Catalan giants planning to renew his contract in the near future.

Barcelona planning to renew Raphinha contract

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has been credited with turning Raphinha’s Barcelona career around, as he did initially struggle to show his best form the La Liga team following a switch from Leeds.

“We knew he was talented, but every player needs an adaptation period, and some need more time. What Flick has done with Raphinha has been exceptional and he has become a leader for this team and feels very comfortable in the city,” Laporta told reporters.

“Renewing his contract is one of the pending issues that we hope to resolve in the coming days or weeks.

“We don’t want any player to be left hanging if he has one year left on his contract. We want to extend their contracts because they deserve it and because it is in our interest as a club to keep this group with a winning mentality.”

Yamal, De Jong contract updates provided by Laporta

Laporta also revealed that Lamine Yamal has agreed a contract extension with Barcelona, while Frenkie de Jong is in discussions with the club over a renewal, having been in excellent form for Flick this season.

“Lamine Yamal’s contract renewal has already been agreed upon. Now all that remains is the official signing,” said Barca’s president.

“We’re working on renewing Frenkie de Jong’s contract. For sure he’s very excited to stay and we’re absolutely determined to do whatever it takes to ensure he stays.”

Barca have one player out of contract this summer, with Wojciech Szczesny yet to agree an extension, but it is understood that the Catalan giants are keen to keep hold of the 35-year-old due to his strong form this season.
