‘I can confirm’: Fabrizio Romano says £50m attacker is ready to leave his club after interest from Liverpool

Liverpool are expected to have a busy summer transfer window after several quiet windows in recent years.

Fans were left frustrated last summer when the club failed to significantly back new manager Arne Slot, with Federico Chiesa the only notable addition to the squad.

Slot still guided Liverpool to Premier League glory in his debut season and the Reds are now getting prepared to defend the title next season.

Liverpool look to be much more active going into this summer. With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid, Liverpool have moved quickly for Jeremie Frimpong.

The deal for the Bayer Leverkusen star is virtually complete, and attention is now turning to other targets. Among them is RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

Liverpool target Xavi Simons set to leave RB Leipzig

The Dutch international has been linked with a move away from Leipzig this summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal among the clubs showing strong interest.

Liverpool even sent scouts to watch Simons in action last month. Now, with Leipzig set to miss out on European football, Simons looks destined to leave the Bundesliga.

This has been backed up by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed the player’s decision to leave amid interest from the Premier League.

Romano said on YouTube: “The expectation as I told you and I can confirm today is for Xavi Simons to leave, he has made this decision.

“RB Leipzig are already informed and they are expected to help with the conversation with interest from Bayern, but only in case they don’t get [Florian] Wirtz, who remains the top target for Bayern, the absolute top target.

“And then interest from Premier League clubs, top Premier League clubs also for Xavi Simons.”

Xavi Simons has drawn comparisons to Jamal Musiala

Simons has been sensational this season, registering 11 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, the 22-year-old is versatile and can also operate on the left wing or as a second striker.

His playing style has drawn comparisons to Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala. As the official Bundesliga website noted: “Like the Bayern midfield star, he loves nothing more than gliding towards an opposition defence with the ball at his feet – and is just as happy to play a sleek pass on the edge of the box as shoot himself.

He can be deployed on the left like Musiala and also shares a clinical touch for goal that is every bit as fine as his nimble play.”

Simons would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool, and given the growing Dutch influence at Anfield, the £50 million-rated star may be drawn to the club.

With Arne Slot at the helm and the presence of compatriots like Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and soon Frimpong, Liverpool could be the ideal next step for Simons.
