Inside Trent Alexander-Arnold’s leaving party at training ground with band, cakes and circus acts

Trent Alexander-Arnold threw a lavish leaving party at the AXA Training Centre, with images going viral showing a lively ‘Summer of 66’ themed celebration attended by players, staff, and their families.

The event comes as the England international prepares to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer—a move that has sparked strong reactions among Liverpool supporters. Alexander-Arnold announced his departure in an emotional social media video shortly after Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions, calling it “easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.”

While some fans offered their support, many expressed anger, with one fan even burning his shirt and others booing the defender at Anfield in his first appearance since the announcement. On Saturday, images emerged online of a vibrant event held at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, with prominent signage reading “Welcome to Summer of 66” – a clear nod to a farewell celebration for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The event, attended by players, their families, and club staff, featured a relaxed daytime gathering, including a barbecue and an ice cream van, before evolving into a more private evening party. Footage shared online showed a marching band, fire-breathers and circus acts, as well as cakes adorned with Alexander-Arnold’s shirt.

Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Darwin Nunez were among those spotted enjoying the festivities. While Liverpool regularly hosts end-of-season family days at the AXA, this event was put on by Alexander-Arnold himself. James Pearce on X said: “Liverpool did not ‘throw a party’ for Trent Alexander-Arnold. There was a barbecue at the AXA Training Centre on Friday. Trent put it on to thank teammates and staff. Similar to what Roberto Firmino did before he left in 2023. Standard stuff for a departing senior player.”

As photos of the event surfaced online, fans quickly began questioning why such a lavish celebration was held at the club’s training ground, especially given the mixed feelings surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s departure. One X user said: “Its genuinely disgusting.” While another added: “Is it bad that I’m kinda disappointed in the rest of the squad for even going? I know they’ve played with him for so long but he’s snaked them as well.”

Salah posed for pictures with attendees at the event and recently expressed surprise and disappointment over Liverpool fans booing Alexander-Arnold at Anfield.

“He needs to go and challenge himself, it’s 20 years at a club and people don’t realise it’s so tough mentally. People don’t realize ‘I do love the club, but I’m going to the same place everyday for 20 years'” said Salah.

“I really wish him the best, I will always be in touch with him. But I think the fans were being harsh with him – I think he didn’t deserve that and he deserves the fans to treat him the best way possible. Because he’s given it all to the fans.”
