Jeremie Frimpong was already spotted at Liverpool training ground as medical booked

Jeremie Frimpong may be on the verge of a move to Liverpool, although the Bayer Leverkusen star has already had a taste of what life with the Reds will be like.

Frimpong looks to be closing in on a move to Anfield, with Liverpool moving quickly over the last week or so following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave this summer. The Reds’ interest in the Netherlands international has been long-standing, as Liverpool.com reported earlier this year, and now he is set to complete a move to Merseyside, 15 years after he first missed out on the opportunity.

Reports on Saturday indicated that Frimpong is set to undergo a medical after personal terms were agreed, with it now just looking to be a matter of time before he completes the move.

The 24-year-old will arrive to provide some competition for Conor Bradley, who has signed a new four-year deal to confirm his position as the Reds’ long-term replacement for Alexander-Arnold, who is set to be heading to Real Madrid.

Frimpong has dropped previous hints to indicate that he is keen on a move to Liverpool, and he has already made a visit to the club’s training ground this season.

Back in November, Leverkusen made the trip to Merseyside for a league phase encounter in the Champions League – a game the Reds would go on to win 4-0.

Before the meeting at Anfield though, Xabi Alonso and his players trained at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, with Frimpong among those pictured out on the pitch as he got an early taste of what to expect from life at his new club.

As well as Frimpong, Florian Wirtz was of course also involved, although it is a lot more doubtful whether the German international will be making Liverpool his permanent home in the future.

Recent reports claimed Wirtz flew to England during the week to meet with Anfield chiefs and take in a tour of Manchester City. However, Liverpool.com understands that isn’t the case.

The Reds are interested in the 22-year-old, although it looks likely that he will remain in Germany this summer, with a move to Bayern Munich having been touted as a possibility – despite Bayern chiefs suggesting otherwise.

Although his teammate might not be joining him, Frimpong does look set to complete his move to Liverpool, despite Arne Slot trying his best not to give anything away during his press conference on Friday.

“I think, again, it is going to be a boring answer,” Slot said when asked about Frimpong. “For all season, it was about the contract extensions of three players, and and now we arriving in the period when everyone wants to know who we’re bringing in.

“The answer is the same, we don’t think about the players we want to bring in, in public, until the moment they have signed for us and then you can ask me everything about them.”
