Report: Jurgen Klopp has just said ‘yes’ to joining another club as manager, 12 months after leaving Liverpool

4 Min Read

Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The German spent nearly nine years at Anfield and won almost everything. He is the reason Liverpool were so successful over the years, and he will forever be a legend at the club.

Klopp took a break until the new year, but he then accepted an offer from the Red Bull group to become their Global Sports Director. He has been working in that role since the turn of 2025.

Now, the 57-year-old has been linked with a return to management at one of Italy’s most historic clubs.

Jurgen Klopp says ‘yes’ to becoming the new AS Roma manager

AS Roma have had plenty of managerial changes over the last 16 months.

Jose Mourinho was shown the door in January 2024 and was replaced by club legend Daniele De Rossi. The Italian, however, barely lasted nine months.

Ivan Juric then took De Rossi’s place on the touchline at Roma, but he was sacked after just 12 games in charge – he wasn’t even there for two months.

Claudio Ranieri was given the job then, but the legendary Italian will be leaving the Stadio Olimpico at the end of this campaign.

Roma will need a new boss for next season, and La Stampa have now reported that Klopp has agreed to take the job.

The report claims that ‘the choice was made some time ago, but the person in question had given a word to another club’.

However, it has been revealed that on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 10:57 pm, Klopp called Roma and said ‘yes’ to becoming their next manager.

What Jurgen Klopp once said about managing in Italy

Any club in the world would be lucky to have Jurgen Klopp as their manager.

The German is one of the best in the business, and even though he has been out of management for 12 months now, nobody can question his ability.

Back in 2018, before Liverpool faced Roma in the Champions League, Klopp was asked if he would ever be open to managing a team in Italy.

The German said at the time, as per Liverpool’s official website: “I don’t think it makes sense for an Italian club to work together with me because I can only order spaghetti in the restaurant and that is not enough to be a manager of an Italian club!

“I don’t think about anything [like that]. I had to talk too often in the last few days or weeks about when I’ll stop working. I don’t even think about stopping working, [it’s] only because people ask me. We will see what happens – que sera, sera! But not in the next four years, for sure.”
