Aston Villa transfer news: Feyenoord starlet with ‘important potential’ being targeted by Premier League giants

3 Min Read

Aston Villa are reportedly leading the race to sign one of Feyenoord‘s most highly-regarded prospect ahead of the summer transfer window.

While the West Midlands outfit’s primary focus is on trying to finish in the top five of the Premier League table, club officials are having to consider their approach in the transfer market.

As well as the possibility of high-profile sales, Villa are allegedly having to be wary of their position with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.

That effectively leaves Unai Emery in a position where value for money will have to be found from somewhere, whether that be through acquiring youngsters with potential, free transfers or players above a certain age range.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who was posting on X, Villa and Emery have emerged as admirers in a Dutch prospect.

Villa pushing for talented striker?

Zepiqueno Redmond – who is just 18 years of age – has allegedly emerged as someone who is deemed to have “important potential” by the English side.

Redmond has already been provided with nine appearances for Feyenoord totally 346 minutes, including a start in the second leg of the Champions League playoff tie at AC Milan in February.

The teenager’s two goals in a Feyenoord shirt came in a KNVB Beker fixture against lower-league opposition, but he has barely played any football since the appointment of Robin van Persie.

With his contract expiring at the end of June, it appears highly likely that Redmond will move on from De Kuip on a free transfer.

While a number of British and Italian clubs are said to be monitoring the situation, Villa are currently viewed as the favourites to sign the Netherlands Under-19s international.

Rival interest from Premier League?

As recently as last month, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth were credited with an interest in the versatile attacker.

Redmond will, therefore, not be short of options as he considers the next step of his career, needing to decide whether first-team football or the size of a club is his preference.

That said, at all three teams, it is plausible that Redmond would be no higher than third in the pecking order. Bournemouth have already agreed to sign Eli Junior Kroupi – another 18-year-old forward – from Lorient ahead of 2025-26.
