Fabrizio Romano shares what Liverpool privately think about Florian Wirtz’s huge £126m price tag

Liverpool are definitely interested in signing Florian Wirtz this summer.

The Germany international is one of the hottest prospects in Europe right now, and multiple clubs across the continent would love to sign him.

Liverpool are keen to sign Wirtz and have even held a face-to-face meeting with the player’s camp about a move to Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed Liverpool’s stance on spending big for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Bayer Leverkusen are undergoing a big transition right now.

Xabi Alonso has announced his departure, as has Jonathan Tah. Jeremie Frimpong is on his way to Liverpool, and there is now a chance that Florian Wirtz could leave too.

Leverkusen would ideally want to keep their star man, but they will sell him if a massive offer lands on their table in the coming weeks.

The German club’s CEO, Fernando Carro, said back in April, as per Goal: “No one is unsellable, but for less than €150m (£126.7m), Wirtz is not leaving.”

That is a lot of money, but Romano has claimed now that Liverpool don’t see his price as an issue at all. They are ready to sign Wirtz, but it depends on which club the player wants to join now.

After claiming that Bayern Munich remain confident about Wirtz, the journalist said on the Market Madness podcast: “Liverpool are doing their job.

“When there is a top player like Florian Wirtz potentially available on the market, it’s normal to meet with people who represent the player, present the project. That’s what Liverpool did, presented their idea, presented their ambition and also the idea of Arne Slot, in case he decides to join.

“The player was quite open to listening to their project. Now, it’s on Florian Wirtz. Liverpool are waiting to see what the player wants to do.

“In case the player decides to move to the Premier League and join them, Liverpool are ready to pay important money to Bayer Leverkusen. The financial agreement is not seen as an eventual issue or problem between Leverkusen and Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s five most expensive signings of all time

Florian Wirtz is a sensational player, and he will cost a lot of money this summer.

If Liverpool want him, they will have to smash their transfer record and pay more than they have ever done before for a single player.

The Reds, however, have no problem spending the big bucks on players they believe in.

Player Signed from Fee
Darwin Nunez Benfica £85m
Virgil van Dijk Southampton £75m
Alisson Becker AS Roma £67m
Domonik Szoboszlai Rb Leipzig £60m
Naby Keita Rb Leipzig £52.75m
Liverpool’s most expensive signings

Wirtz, if Liverpool do sign him, will be on top of the above list and would likely cost over twice as much as Szoboszlai.

Manchester City dropped out of the race to sign Wirtz because they felt the overall deal would be too expensive, but Liverpool’s stance seems to be different.

That will excite Reds fans, but only time will tell if they will be able to beat Bayern to Wirtz’s signature.
