Barcelona confirm Hansi Flick renewal: How many trophies has the German won this season?

5 Min Read

Barcelona have announced that head coach Hansi Flick has signed a new contract with the club until June 2027.

The German’s previous deal with the Catalan giants had been due to expire in June 2026, but there has been a host of speculation surrounding a potential extension in recent weeks.

Barcelona have had a glorious 2024-25 campaign, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, but they fell just short in the Champions League, being knocked out in the semi-finals by Inter Milan.

Flick is now committed to the Spanish champions until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

Flick ‘creating history’ at Barcelona

“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the renewal of his contract which will tie him to the club until 30 June 2027,” read a statement from the Catalan giants.

“The German coach has signed a new contract on Wednesday at the Club offices in the presence of FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafa Yuste and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco“, amongst others.

“Hansi Flick has made Barca fans happy in his first season for many reasons: for the belief he has given to the team, for the epic comebacks and for the trophies. The excitement that the German has brought to the club in his first year in charge has made FC Barcelona a feared rival once again in Europe.

“Hansi Flick is creating history at FC Barcelona and that, we are sure, will continue in the coming seasons.”

Laporta thanks Flick for extending Barcelona contract

Taking to social media to comment on the news, Barcelona president Laporta said: “Hansi, thank you for continuing to add to Barca’s legacy, the greatest club in the world. The fans love you, and we believe in you to keep leading our team to more wins!”

Meanwhile, Flick told the club’s media: “We suffered a bit in November and December, but we stayed calm and played at an incredible level. In the second half of the season, we deserved everything we achieved.

“I’m happy to work with this team. I like staying in Barcelona and working at this amazing club, with these players. We have a great relationship and now we’re starting from scratch. We have to work hard, like we did before. We have to improve, and we will.

“I feel that they have a spirit to grow and to learn, and that’s what’s important to me. They want to be better every day, in every match. We work hard during the week and on the weekends, in the games, we can see if things are going well or if we need to go in another direction. That’s what I feel: that everyone is going in the same direction, that we want to get better step by step.

Flick reveals delight at Barcelona agreement

“The connection is very close and it’s great to feel it that way. They’ve given us a lot of support, because many times we’ve had to come from behind and you feel that the people are there, the players feel it on the pitch too.

“I want the same from this season for the next. I can tell them that we will try everything, to be better and of course to win titles. This is Barcelona and it’s necessary to win titles.”

Barcelona suffered a 3-2 defeat to Villarreal in La Liga last time out, and they will be bidding to return to winning ways in Spain’s top flight when they finish their campaign away to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday night.

Flick has delivered three out of the four trophies available to the team this season, including a domestic double, with Real Madrid having no answer to Barcelona’s quality during the 2024-25 campaign.
