Another to leave Bavaria on a free?

Is Bayern Munich going to make an effort to push out midfielder Leon Goretzka this summer?

Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, and incoming TSG Hoffenheim whiz kid Tom Bischof are all set to join João Palhinha in the Bavarian engine room next season, which could leave Goretzka — who will have hopes of making the Germany roster at the 2026 Men’s World Cup — in a precarious situation for playing time.

From the club’s perspective, his contract could also be at issue.

From Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg:

A contract extension for Leon #Goretzka at FC Bayern beyond 2026 is currently not a topic for either side – and not planned.

Everything is possible this summer. It will also depend on concrete offers for Goretzka. The current tendency is that he will enter the final year of his contract.

BFW Analysis

One can see the conundrum facing the bosses and the reason behind the push to drive the wage bill down. On the one hand, as former sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić noted, contracts are determined by the market and Bayern probably needed to offer big money to secure these key players at the time.

On the other, high wages makes it difficult to attract suitors for players whose time at the club may be up. Other clubs will struggle to offer a similar salary and players will accordingly not be keen on a move. In the end, such players are incentivized to sit on the Bayern wage bill until their contracts are up.

Can Bayern accept that with Goretzka next season in an already crowded midfield?
