‘I was told’: £37m player is now more likely to sign for Arsenal than Liverpool – journalist

The summer transfer window is just around the corner, and the Premier League’s biggest clubs are starting to make their moves.

Arsenal are set to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, while Liverpool are in for Florian Wirtz.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both moved early this summer, and both teams have been linked to similar targets.

Alexander Isak has been linked to both Liverpool and Arsenal, while Real Madrid’s Rodrygo was on both teams’ radar at one point.

Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Rodrygo’s future, and he says that Liverpool are now out of this race, and that Arsenal are the Premier League club who are most seriously exploring a deal for the £40m man.

Liverpool out of Rodrygo race while Arsenal remain keen

Jacobs shared what he knows about Rodrygo as the Brazilian potentially gears up to leave Real Madrid.

The journalist says that Liverpool are now out of this race, while Arsenal are indeed still looking into a potential deal.

“As I broke six weeks ago, Rodrygo and Premier League clubs is one to watch. The three I was told was Liverpool – who are now not in the race, but they were aware of the opportunity, Arsenal and Chelsea,” Jacobs said.

“Chelsea don’t yet know what they want to do with their wide players, with Rodrygo, I think Chelsea are now less inclined to do that deal, but Arsenal are still exploring it.”

Rodrygo compared to Florian Wirtz

Arsenal and Liverpool could both make marquee attacking signings this summer in the shape of Rodrygo and Florian Wirtz respectively.

Both players would be very exciting signings, but, statistically, Wirtz has been outshining Rodrygo.

Of course, there’s important context to put in place here.

Wirtz is the main man at Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, Rodrygo is Real Madrid’s least high-profile attacking outlet behind the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.

On top of that, these two players do play different roles and positions too.

Rodrygo and Wirtz could well end up being the two statement signings of the summer, and they may ultimately define who ends up becoming Premier League champions next season.
