‘Not good news’: Pundit says Alexis Mac Allister will be worried by rumour coming from Liverpool

3 Min Read

Liverpool have made huge strides in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz over the last 24 hours.

The Reds have been extremely proactive ahead of the summer transfer window. Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool is already done, and they are also close to securing Milos Kerkez.

However, it’s the rapid progress in their efforts to land Wirtz that has left fans stunned. Liverpool are now firmly in pole position to sign the German superstar.

According to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, Wirtz to Liverpool is expected to be done quickly, with everything agreed with the player.

With the 22-year-old closing in on a stunning transfer to Anfield, pundit Craig Burley believes his arrival could impact two current players.

Florian Wirtz’s arrival is not good news for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai

Burley described the Leverkusen man as a ‘game changer’, praising his ability to create chances, link play, and contribute to the attack with assists and key passes.

However, he claimed that while Ryan Gravenberch’s position remains safe, Wirtz’s arrival may not be good news for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Speaking on ESPN, he said: “It’s not good news for Alexis Mac Allister or Dominik Szoboszlai. Gravenberch is ok because he plays a deeper role, but Florian Wirtz is a game changer, he’s match winner, his ability to assist, play a pass and be a link player.”

Will Florian Wirtz’s signing impact Liverpool’s midfield

Despite Burley’s claims, Wirtz’s arrival isn’t expected to impact Alexis Mac Allister’s position in the Liverpool starting XI.

Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s best players since joining the club from Brighton in 2023 for £35m.

And the World Cup winner played a massive role in helping Arne Slot win the Premier League in his first season in charge at Liverpool.

His performances have attracted interest from abroad, with Real Madrid keen on signing Mac Allister.

And while Mac Allister has acknowledged Real Madrid’s interest, the 26-year-old has insisted he is happy at Liverpool.

Given the Argentine’s importance to Arne Slot’s side, he is expected to retain his role in the starting XI.

Wirtz, on the other hand, could take up a more advanced false 9 role, similar to the position once occupied by Roberto Firmino, allowing all three to co-exist in a dynamic system.
