‘Ghostly’: What the French media said about Mohamed Salah’s performance vs PSG as he loses possession 16 times

4 Min Read

Mohamed Salah had a tough evening at the Parc des Princes as the forward struggled to make an impact in Liverpool’s snatch and grab 1-0 win over PSG.

Arne Slot’s team somehow left Paris with a win as, despite the hosts dominating proceedings, Harvey Elliot netted the only goal of the game.

Ellito replaced Salah with just four minutes of normal time remaining and the youngster managed to produce the decisive moment in the match.

Liverpool had 25 fewer attempts at goal than PSG, with Salah having a quiet evening, and the French media have reacted to his display in the capital.

What’s been said about Mohamed Salah’s tough evening at Parc des Princes

Mohamed Salah endured a tricky game at the Parc des Princes as the forward was deemed to be a ‘phantom’ and ‘ghostly’ by the French media.

GFFN rated him a 2/10 and wrote: “Salah, touted as the current favourite for the Ballon d’Or, was a phantom.

“The Egyptian was uninvolved for large periods, comfortably shackled by Mendes and Pacho. He didn’t make any of his three dribbles, lost all eight of his duels and lost possession on 16 occasions.”

Goal France were a fair bit more generous and scored him a 7.0/10, meanwhile, FootMercato gave him 2.5/10: “The Egyptian was ghostly, touching very few balls in the Parisian camp.

“On each of his rare accelerations, Salah was devoured by Nuno Mendes, in a duel where the Portuguese full-back was promised hell.

“In the second half, the former Chelsea and Roma player had the chances, but never made the right decision with the ball at his feet, nipping in the bud the rare opportunities of the English, like in the last minutes when his pass to Nunez was too imprecise.”

The French media react to Alisson Becker’s performance vs PSG

But for Alisson Becker, he produced one of the best performances of his career as he made nine crucial saves as Liverpool ‘robbed’ a result from PSG.

After the game, Arne Slot admitted that he has never worked with a goalkeeper like Alisson, meanwhile, Stephen Warnock described Alisson as “exceptional” against PSG.

The French media were also singing the 32-year-old’s praises as GFFN handed him a 9/10: “Clearly the man of the match and the one who provided the game-defining performance.

“The Brazilian made nine saves on the night and succeeded in frustrating the PSG forward line, notably denying Dembélé in a one-on-one and making two important saves in the second half.

8.8 was awarded to him by Goal France and FootMercato wrote ‘read above’ for his match report with most of PSG’s attackers having efforts denied by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
