Mohamed Salah looked calm and relaxed as he and his Liverpool teammates boarded the team bus at their team hotel on Sunday morning.
The Reds stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Wembley on Saturday night ahead of today’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, and they left the hotel shortly after 10am this morning.
A fan in attendance captured the players boarding the team bus, and another supporter was heard shouting: “Have you signed Mo?” in reference to his contract situation.
Salah’s deal is due to expire at the end of the season, and there are concerns that he could leave the club for free in the summer.
Unsurprisingly, the Egyptian didn’t issue a response to the supporter, but he was clearly in good spirits as he smiled and chatted with Dominik Szoboszlai before getting on the coach.
Salah is one of three key players whose contracts with Liverpool are due to expire at the end of the season, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the same situation.
Alexander-Arnold apears likely to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, while the chances of Van Dijk and Salah staying seem higher.
Liverpool’s failure to commit either Van Dijk or Salah to a new contract is reportedly purely due to them being unhappy with the terms that have so far been offered to them, rather than either player wanting to leave.
Salah has been one of the best players in Europe this season but his Ballon d’Or chances took a major hit last week when Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of PSG.
After that game, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot gave a reporter short shrift when he was asked whether Salah might have made his final Champions League appearance for the Reds. “That is the last thing I think about!” Slot responded. “It is creative to come up with the contract situation.”
