Arsenal transfer news: Gunners defender ’emerges as transfer target’ for Bundesliga giants

3 Min Read

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior is reportedly wanted by Bundesliga contenders Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

The 25-year-old is one of a host of first-team players at the North London club who could be offloaded during the off-season, potentially raising over £100m for Mikel Arteta to reinvest in the squad.

Kiwior has played a bit-part role at the Emirates this term, appearing in just nine competitive matches, including only eight in the Premier League.

There has been more recognition for the towering defender on the continental scene, though, with the 33-time international playing twice for Poland in the March international window.

The centre-back has started just the pair of Premier League games for the Gunners this term, and was an unused substitute as Arsenal edged past capital rivals Chelsea prior to the two-week hiatus of club action.

Arsenal man Kiwior wanted by Bayer Leverkusen?

According to TuttoSport, Kiwior’s frustrating spell on the sidelines of the Arsenal plans could be coming to an exciting end in the near future.

The report claims that Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen have registered an interest in the 25-year-old, who could link up with a former teammate at BayArena.

Following a mixed spell at the Emirates, Granit Xhaka moved to join Xabi Alonso‘s troops a few years ago and has since lifted a Bundesliga title.

It is understood that Kiwior expressed his desire to depart Arsenal in November of last year with Juventus keen on the defender, although Arteta’s men opted to keep the player through the January transfer window.

Given his lowly position in the defensive pecking order, the Polish enforcer represents a realistic departure over the summer, with the Gunners supposedly looking to pocket between £12.5m and £16.7m for the player.

Arsenal’s armoury and Bayer battles

Boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League, Arsenal are unsurprisingly looking to build future success around centre-back pairing Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.

The summer arrival of Riccardo Calafiori and the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly has thrown Kiwior further into obscurity at the Emirates, making an off-season departure likely.

The 25-year-old could satisfy a need in Germany, where Bayer Leverkusen are preparing for a mass exodus of defenders prior to the 2025-26 term.

Jonathan Tah continues to be linked with a switch away from the BayArena, whilst Piero Hincapie could also be heading out of the Leverkusen door.
