People in Spain are now expecting £25m player to sign for Arsenal – journalist

Arsenal head into the summer transfer wincow with plenty of work to do.

Indeed, the Gunners are set to fall short for the third year in a row in the Premier League title race, and they need to bolster their squad in order to make up ground heading into next season.

Of course, there has been a lot of talk about Arsenal signing a striker.

Viktor Gyokeres has been linked to Arsenal, while Alexander Isak is the Gunners’ dream target.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, David Garrido has shared another Arsenal update, and he says that people in Spain are expecting the Gunners to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol this summer.

Garcia was linked to Arsenal last summer, and people in Spain are expecting this deal to now get done.

Joan Garcia expected to sign for Arsenal

Garrido shared what he knows about Arsenal’s summer transfer plans.

The journalist says Arsenal will go for a striker, while he also noted that Martin Zubimendi is a concrete target.

Zubimendi has been linked to Arsenal, while according to the journalist, people in Spain expect Joan Garcia to sign for the Gunners.

“But the focus will not be just on strikers. And I think it’s important to note that they want to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and he could cost around 50 million pounds. They’re also looking at a goalkeeper,” Garrido said.

“I think people in Spain are very much expecting Joan Garcia from Espanyol to go to Arsenal too. So there’s plenty of work to be done. And Arteta was quite bold in saying that himself today, calling it a big one in terms of the summer and the window they need and spoke also about his excitement for getting it done.”

Joan Garcia stats this season

Arsenal are expected to sign Joan Garcia this summer, and there’s reason to be excited about this transfer.

Indeed, while the £25m-rated goalie isn’t doing brilliantly in terms of keeping clean sheets or keeping the ball out of the net, his underlying goalkeeping stats are solid.

Garcia’s save percentage is comparable to David Raya’s, while the pair’s kicking stats are also comparable too.

Joan Garcia David Raya
Saves 97
74% Save percentage 77%
9% Cross claim percentage 13%
50 yards Average goal kick length 49 yards
29% Penalty save percentage (career) 8%
23 Age 28

At the age of just 23, Garcia could be one for the future for Arsenal, and while it’s difficult to get too excited about signing a second-choice goalkeeper, this could be a decent addition to the squad.

Arsenal have needed a new goalkeeper since selling Aaron Ramsdale last summer, and this sort of signing could be just what the doctor ordered at the Emirates.

Garcia could well be an early summer addition at Arsenal.
