Report: How Viktor Gyokeres actually feels about his links to Arsenal behind the scenes

4 Min Read

In the past few days, Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer.

Gyokeres is Andrea Berta’s ideal striker and the Sporting CP marksman’s incredible record speaks for itself — as he has scored a staggering 42 goals in 42 appearances this season.

Arsenal are in desperate need of an out-and-out number nine like the Swedish international who has mastered the art of scoring goals — a characteristic that both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus lack.

The good news for the Gunners is that while Gyokeres had promised to join Manchester United, their financial difficulties have made his reunion with Ruben Amorim unlikely.

From Viktor Gyokeres’ standpoint, it must not be ideal being one of world football’s trending topics as he is in the midst of what could possibly be his final season at Sporting CP.

However, being one of the best strikers in the world, Gyokeres will also understand that the noise will be loud especially when a club of Arsenal’s stature are linked with his signature.

Arsenal have been scouting Gyokeres since 2023 when he first signed for Sporting and it seems like they believe that he could be the man to propel them to domestic and European glory.

A fresh revelation has emerged that indicates that the 26-year-old is aware of the speculation surrounding him potentially playing for Mikel Arteta next season.

However, Portuguese outlet A Bola has revealed that Gyokeres does not even wish to listen to any links in relation to him signing for Arsenal or any other club for that matter.

While the idea of Mikel Arteta admiring Gyokeres should excite him, his sole focuses are winning his second Liga Portugal title with Sporting and replicating his own goalscoring record — which he is one goal away (43 in the 2023/2024 season) from matching.

Steps to leave Sporting to sign for Arsenal or away from Portugal in general for the in-demand goalscorer were always meant to be addressed at the end of the ongoing season, according to the report.

What Viktor Gyokeres is actually like behind the scenes

Andrea Berta might well be satisfied after realising how strong his dream target is mentally.

Arsenal could sign Gyokeres for £55 million and as a result, Berta seems insistent on his signature as the fee that has been quoted would be a bargain.

But what will delight the Gunners is how single-minded and ambitious Gyokeres is, as detailed by journalist Andy Turner while speaking about Manchester Evening News about his evolution after a slow start at Coventry: “He came back [in the summer] stronger, hungrier, fitter and more determined than ever, and he was just so single-minded and focused.”

“You could tell he was very single-minded. He wanted to and Mark Robins [former Coventry boss] admitted this, get to the highest place in his career as quickly as possible. He didn’t want to mess around.”
