Cristian Ignacio Garín Medone aka. Cristian Garin is a young gun in the world of professional tennis. Needless to say, he started playing tennis when he was young and turned pro in 2011.

Before turning pro, in 2010, Garin won the U14 world championship with Bastián Malla and Sebastián Santibáñez, defeating Italy in the final. The next year, at 14 years old, Garín won his first ITF Junior title at the Pascuas Bowl, a Grade 5 tournament.

In 2012, at the age of 16, Garin broke into the top ten in the ITF Junior Rankings after winning the Eddie Herr (G1) in singles and doubles and the Orange Bowl Doubles, partnering with Nicolás Jarry.

At the 2013 French Open, Garín reached his first Junior Grand Slam finals in both singles and doubles. He won the finals hence winning his first Junior Grand Slam title in the Singles category. However, in the doubles event, they lost the finals in two sets.

In 2012, Garin entered the ATP ranking in February. In March, he made his ATP Challenger debut, in the 2012 Cachantún Cup. Further, on September, Garin became the youngest Chilean player to debut Davis Cup.

In 2013, Garin had his first pro win. He defeated Dušan Lajović in the 2013 VTR Open, an ATP 250 tournament. Also, in 2014 and in 2015, Garin participated in many ATP tournaments and also in Davis Cup. The participation in turn helped with his world rankings, He finished 2015 as World No. 321.

In 2016, Garin won his first challenger title in Lima, at the end of the season. Subsequently, he ended the year as world No. 211.

In 2017, Garin made his Grand Slam debut at the Wimbledon. However, he lost in the main draw. Garín ended 2016 as world No. 311.

In 2018, Garin won three Challenger titles. He won the Challenger of Campinas, Santo Domingo, and Lima. After winning at Lima, Garín entered the top 100, at world No. 89.

In 2019, Garin won two ATP titles. He won the 2019 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston, Texas. The U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships win was Garin’s first ATP Tour title. Next, Garin won his second ATP title of the season in Munich. After winning at Munich, Garin became the first Chilean to win an ATP tournament in Europe in more than a decade.

In 2020, Garin won the Córdoba Open after defeating Diego Schwartzman in the finals. Next, within one month, Garin won the 2020 Rio Open. The Rio Open win was Garin’s first ATP 500 title. Also, with the win, Garín appeared in the top 20 of the ATP Tour world ranking for the first time in his career, as world No. 18.

Furthermore, in 2021, Garin won the 2021 Chile Open, thus winning his fifth ATP title. Next, Garín made his best Grand Slam run in his career by reaching the fourth round at the 2021 French Open. Further, seeded 17th at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Garín reached the fourth round for the first time in his career and second time in a row at a major in 2021.

In 2022, Garin played in the French Open but lost against Gael Monfils in the Round of 32. He also qualified for the US Open Round 2 in 2022. In 2025, he qualified for the round 16 in U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships.
