This time, it could be won in front of fans…
Back in 2020, football had to change completely as the COVID-19 pandemic had the whole world grind to a halt. One of the main consequences of the pandemic was that fans were not allowed to go to stadiums for a long time. That included the conclusion of the 2020 Champions League, which saw Bayern Munich triumph against Paris Saint Germain to lift the big eared trophy…in front of no fans.
Obviously, winning the title is still extremely valuable, but this year Bayern have the chance to win the tournament in front of fans. And, given that the Allianz Arena will host the UCL final this year, it would be their own fans cheering them on. Gnabry, an important member of the 2020 Champions League winning squad, talks about how much of a dream such a scenario would be.
“That would be incredible, of course. We have this goal in mind – and we’re dreaming about it,” Gnabry admitted, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Things are going well so far, so it would be nice to repeat the triumph from back then [2020] – and with our fans behind us at the final at home. That would be the icing on the cake. Winning the Champions League in Munich is something we all dream of, can dream of, and should dream of. If we achieve that, it would be fantastic.”
But in order to do that, Bayern will first need to overcome Inter Milan in the quarterfinals. Good luck, men, and please bring us to the Finale Dahoam.
