Liverpool confirms second pre-season game as 2025/26 plans take shape after Salah and Van Dijk update

4 Min Read

Liverpool has announced its second pre-season friendly of the summer, confirming a game against Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday, July 30.

The game will take place at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama and will see the Reds face off against the J1 League team managed by ex-England assistant boss Steve Holland.

This follows the announcement of Liverpool’s first pre-season tour match in Asia against AC Milan at the newly opened Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong on Saturday, July 26. That game – the first to be played at the stadium – will see the winners awarded the Standard Chartered Trophy, a nod to the Reds’ principal shirt partner since 2010.

Details regarding ticket sales and kick-off times for both games are yet to be released, but fans can register their interest now. The club will also directly contact relevant parties.

The squad and staff will be flown to Asia by Japan Airlines, Liverpool’s official airline partner. The last time the Reds visited the region was in 2023 when they played in Singapore, and prior to that, they travelled to Hong Kong for pre-season in 2017.

During their stay in Asia, Liverpool will participate in several local community projects and cultural activities, as well as hosting supporter events with club legends.

Ben Latty, chief commercial officer at Liverpool, has shared his enthusiasm about the team’s upcoming tour in Asia. “We’re extremely excited to be returning to Asia for this summer’s pre-season tour and we’re very grateful to our principal partner, Standard Chartered, for their support in sponsoring the Standard Chartered Trophy against AC Milan, 20 years on from that magical night in Istanbul.

“The game against Milan will take place at the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Stadium, a venue that was opened at the beginning of March.

“It’s a great honor for us to enjoy the award-winning and first-rate hospitality of Japan Airlines, our official airline partner, to fly us in comfort and ensure our pre-season tour starts and ends in the best way possible.

“We look forward to bringing our hundreds of millions of fans in Asia closer to the club they love.”

With an impressive lead in the league, there’s a buzz around the Reds potentially heading to Asia as Premier League champions. They sit comfortably at the summit, 11 points ahead with only seven games remaining.

Should they secure 11 more points from those seven fixtures, Liverpool will celebrate clinching the English top-flight title for the 20th time, matching a historic record.

What’s more, Arne Slot may have already been handed the perfect start to next season’s preparations, with the news that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah look set to sign new contracts at Anfield.
