Mohamed Salah’s new contract at Liverpool has been confirmed, with the forward set to extend his stay at the club to 10 years after the length of his new deal was confirmed.

The new deal brings to an end months of speculation, with Salah having been due to be out of contract in the summer before putting pen to paper on his new deal. A transfer to Saudi Arabia had been touted, as well as moves across Europe, with Paris Saint-Germain among those linked.

Virgil van Dijk looks as though he might not be far behind Salah in penning new terms, with reports this week suggesting that the Liverpool captain is also closing in on a new contract, having revealed “progress” has been made in talks. Trent Alexander-Arnold though looks as though he will be leaving the club this summer, with a move to Real Madrid seemingly in the offing.

News of Salah’s new contract has, of course, been greeted with joy by Liverpool fans, with supporters having been calling for the Egyptian to be handed a new deal for some time now.

The announcement was made on Friday, although the club’s confirmation didn’t disclose how long the new deal was. Liverpool.com has now had it confirmed that Salah has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Having signed for Liverpool back in 2017, that means Salah will bring up 10 years with the club should he see out the full length of his deal.

“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah said upon signing his new contract. “We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
