Is the magic back?

One of the topics that made the rounds over the years, as Bayern Munich closed in on and then surpassed 10 straight Bundesliga titles, is whether the weight of constant victory had become an albatross for the team.

Does the spark go out after a while? Does routine dull the senses, even for the players?

Well, Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen blew a hole in the narrative with last season’s invincible charge to the Bundesliga title — ending Bayern’s streak at 11, the longest such streak in Europe’s top five leagues.

But this year, Vincent Kompany has led a resurgent Bayern back to the top of the table, and Alonso’s Leverkusen side, while still strong, has stumbled and is on the verge of being taken apart in the offseason. Bayern is back, and the Rekordmeister ready to start its Meisterschale streak anew.

How does it feel? Weird? Euphoric? As hungry and prized a trophy as ever before?

Or routine again — Bayern doing what Bayern does? Chime in with your thoughts below.

Personally — this author feels the B04 interregnum was a good thing, winning in the domineering manner they did. It’s got to be used as an excuse to light that spark again. Now let’s get after it and springboard into next year!
